Sandra Day O’Connor resigns

Breaking news. . .I know I’m probably a little late getting this to you, but I just got wind of it at work. More updates later on in the day, if I can.

CNN has the story here. Somebody should be signing on shortly as a guest poster to fill you guys in.

Check out SCOTUSblog for the most up to date information available.

All hell is about to break loose, as AMERICAblog says. Sandra Day O’Connor has long been the swing vote of the Court, along with Justice Kennedy. As much as her jurisprudence bothers me for its incosistencies, she and Kennedy were the only moderates on the Court. We must make sure that the next nominee is just as moderate as she is. Anything less will be worthless.

Keeping the Court in its present balance is for the betterment of America.

By the way, the resignation today is planned. That allows the Bush Administration at least a three day weekend to work on picking a nominee.

One constitutional question–Can the President appoint a Associate Judge to the Supreme Court during a Congressional recess?

Let’s pray the answer is no.
