UPDATE: So State 29 links to me and I can’t figure out why except to poke fun. If you want to know why I think Bush is a lame duck, look at the polls and all he’s accomplished in the year since he’s started his second term. Social Security failed, Medicare reform is a massive disaster, things in Iraq aren’t getting better, and on and on. What can he say as positives? Two Supreme Court Justices? — they don’t win you elections or translate into political success. A booming economy? Nope, the economy grew at the lowest rate in a decade in the last quarter of 2004. Finally, he’s going to be announcing tonight this policy of creating health savings accounts — another program to become the latest bamboozlement like privatization. See Ezra Klein’s post on them at TAPPED for more.

The most recent Des Moines Register ‘Iowa Poll’ reports that President Bush only has a 37% approval rating in Iowa.
Does this mean anything huge for House races across Iowa this November? Probably not. The Democrats certainly have an advantage — but I wouldn’t think it’d be enough to really alter anything. Iowans are incredibly fickle when it comes to electing people.
Like State 29 points out, I guess Iowans just aren’t going to vote for him again. Well, duh.
Bush is a lame duck, and there is no way that tonight’s State of the Union will fix anything. I won’t be blogging it — I’ll be with friends making a game out of it.
So why would anyone vote for Republicans in ‘06?
Oh yeah. Because they aren’t Democrats.
Lame duck whatever. House majority. Senate majority. White House, and now a balanced Supreme Court. W’s a lame duck like a Ferrari’s a jalopy.
Like it or not. It is really bad news for us Democrats if W is this stupid, inept, lame, etc. and our last Presidential candidate can’t even pull off fillibuster without splitting the party in two.
Mr. Pot, I’d like to introduce you to Ms. Kettle.
Just don’t call her black.
Eep. I guess if it limps like a duck…
Washington, DC—Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid released the following statement today on the reauthorization of provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act.
“This Friday, a small number of provisions of the USA PATRIOT Act are due to expire. Congress is already working to make sure that doesn’t happen. Work is underway on another 6-week extension, and Senate Democrats stand ready to provide law enforcement with all necessary tools to keep Americans safe from terrorism.”
”Democrats supported the original Patriot Act that passed in 2001, we supported the reauthorization bill that passed the Senate unanimously last summer, and we support reauthorization of the Patriot Act now with modest improvements. We must give government the tools it needs to fight the terrorists, but the checks we need to stop it from abusing its powers”
”Democrats are committed to protecting Americans from terrorism. We do not want the Patriot Act to expire, and there is no reason that it should.”
Honestly, dammit. Do we stand for anything these days besides claiming that all of our mounting losses were “close” ones?
Let’s face it. We’re Don Adams. “Missed it by THAT much!”
The only difference is that we don’t ever seem to “get smart.”
